Instructional Guide on Adding a New or Existing Enhanced Rubric to an Assignment in Canvas

The following instructional guide lists the steps involved in adding enhanced rubrics to assignments. These steps are created in order to replicate the newer view because of the latest upgrades made to Rubrics in Canvas.

 Instructions

  1. In Course Navigation, click the Assignments link.

  1. Open the assignment by clicking on the name of the assignment to add the rubric.

  1. Depending on whether you already have the Rubric or you need to create the rubric, choose the appropriate button to add the rubric to the assignment.

  1. To find an existing rubric, click the Find Rubric button. You can find rubrics that were created in previous assignments as well as rubrics created in other courses where you have an instructor role.

In the first search box, you can enter the name of the rubric to search for it [1]. In the second dropdown menu, you can select the course in which you have previously used the rubric, or you can look at all the rubrics in your account [2]. Based on the selection in step [2], the rubrics will be listed for you to select. To select a rubric for the assignment, scroll to the name of the rubric and click the circle button to select the rubric [3]. Once the rubric is selected, click on the +Add button [4] to add the rubric to the assignment. 

  1. To create a new rubric, use the Canvas instructional guide on creating a new enhanced rubric in Canvas. 

  2. Once you click on the Save Rubric button after adding all the rubric information, the rubric will be added to the assignment.

Please note that the expanded view of the rubric will not be available in edit mode. To view the rubric, click on the Preview Rubric button. However, the rubric will be visible in expanded view when you test in Student View.
