How to Download Kaltura Videos from Canvas

The easiest way to download the original video file is to download it from My Media in Canvas. There is a setting that must be enabled in order to download even if you are the owner of the video.

 Instructions

This is a 2 step process.

Step 1: Enable the download option for a Kaltura video

• Go to the video you would like to enable the downloading feature in My Media

• Click on the edit pencil

• Click on the Download tab from the various tabs under the video

• Click on the checkbox that says source next to Available Formats and click on the Save button to save the changes.

Step 2: Download the video file

• Click the video title link for the video you wish to download from My Media or Course Gallery

• If the Download feature is enabled for the video, there will be a Download tab under the video

• Choose the Download tab to see a download button under the Actions column

• Depending on your browser, you may be prompted to allow the download. Please click Allow if you get a pop-up for this video download.

• The video will begin to download.

• Go to your downloaded items or the location where your downloaded files reside on your personal device to view the video file. The downloaded video will have the same title as it is displayed in Canvas along with video quality information. You can rename the video to shorten the title of the video.
