Announcement - Known Issue: Apostrophes in Canvas Names
The Instructional Design & Academic Technology (IDAT) and Information Technology departments have identified an issue in Canvas where names containing an apostrophe are displayed incorrectly in certain menus. Instead of an apostrophe, the HTML code string "'" appears.
This issue is not universal, but it most commonly affects two areas:
The People page: When you click a name, the pop-out menu may show the HTML code.
The Assign to function: When assigning an item to an individual student, the drop-down menu may display the HTML code.
For example, a name like "Conor O'Neil" may appear with the incorrect code string (eg. Conor O'Neil) in these menus.
We have reported this bug to Instructure, the developer of Canvas. They have confirmed that this issue is affecting other institutions as well. Canvas engineers are actively working on a solution. We will provide an update as soon as the issue is resolved and the fix has been implemented at Le Moyne College.
