Ensure that every page, document, and image added to your course fulfills the following requirements

Accessible Documents

Use a font size of at least 12px.
Ensure sufficient contrast between text and background.
Use proper heading styles.
Maintain a logical heading structure.
Provide alternative descriptions for images that convey their full meaning.
1. Select “decorative images” for non-essential purposes in Canvas and other areas, with the Ally Accessibility Tool in Canvas
Use tables for tabular data only.
Include column headings in all tables.
Use built-in list functionality for all lists.
Use descriptive text for all links indicating their target.
Make sure built-in PowerPoint slide templates are used.
Ensure accessibility of Word documents.
Avoid using scanned PDFs.
Ensure all PDFs are tagged.
Minimize the Canvas menu items by removing unnecessary ones.
1. Consider the following order for menu items: Home, Syllabus, Modules, Assignments, Grades.
Use full file names for documents, e.g., "Syllabus SOC 101 Spring 2021.pdf".

Lead Accessible Classes

Have students announce their names.
Provide the actual accessible file of the presentation.
Inform students that the session is being recorded.
Avoid spontaneous Canvas-based discussions. Plan and prepare for discussions in advance, allowing students time to read others' responses and respond accordingly.
Provide students with PowerPoints or slides ahead of time, as the screen reader may not pick up content on the shared screen.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a technology that recognizes text within a digital image. It is commonly used to recognize text in scanned documents and images. The Le Moyne Library has a scanner with OCR capabilities to the left of the front library desk.
